In carton box production, there is no single stage is absolutely"most important", they are more like tightly connected loops on a chain. But, if it is necessary to discuss between primary and secondary, we can say, printing is the"facade" that determines the lower limit of the carton box, slotting and die-cutting are fundamental which decide the final shape and function of the carton box, and this is also the key point about the technical expertise.
Normally, it will depend on what you pay attention, the appearance display of the carton box or the practical functionality and structural strength.
Printing: decide the "appearance" and brand image
Printing is the"face" of carton box, it directly decide the customer's first impression and the communication of brand information.
The most intuitionistic value: if the printing effect are not correct, color deviation, blurry patterns, the"appearance" of the carton box will be greatly reduced, and it will directly affect the product grade and brand image.
Quality control points: the printing accuracy will be affected by many factors, for example, paper feeding, plate material, ink viscosity and equipment accuracy. If we need to keep the printing accuracy within ± 0.5mm, we need to finely control each step.
Slotting&die-cutting: decide the"skeleton" and functionality
These two steps will decide whether the carton box can be folded smoothly and stand steadily, and this is the physical basic for the formation of the carton box, the technical content and difficulties will be higher than printing.
Slotting(regular box): usually used for straight slotting and creasing, it can make the cardboard to bend and form according to the request position. The difficult is bursting the pressure line-the cardboard breaks at the bend, it usually need precise control of the depth of the pressure line and the moisture content of the cardboard, otherwise, it will cause large amount of waste.
Die-cutting(irregular box): use a knife mould to cut many noe-linear contours at once, such as cardboard boxes with handle holes, vetilation holes or special shapes, if the die-cutting deviation or incomplete cutting edge, the whole carton box will be failed.

Why we say it has more test skills?
Because it has high mechanical precision requirements: slotting and die-cutting involve physical contact between the cutting tool and the cardboard, it has high requirement for gap control between the upper and lower rollers, tool wear and transmission synchronization. For example, if the slotting knives loose or worn, it will cause the problems such as inaccurate dimensions and burrs.
High adaptablity requirements for cardboard: this stage is greatly affected by changes in cardboard material and moisture content. If the cardboard wet or dry, the size will shrink, and this will cause the slot position completely offset.

The key point is in"cooperation"
On modern integrated cardboard equipment(such as printing slotting dit-cutting machine), these three processes are completed continuously, any deviation in one stage will affect the final product. Since slotting/die-cutting is affected by multiple"hard factors" such as cardboard and machinery, and it is difficult to remedy any mistakes, so, whatever it is in the technical management or quality control, it is usually the most experienced and technical stage.
