what is Water-Based Ink? 

Water-based ink contains water as a solvent, chemical compounds, and pigments that are crucial in creating the desired color and texture. Water-based ink colors are bright and vivid, and they do not produce strong odors compared to solvent-based ink. This type of ink is also eco-friendly as it does not contain harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In some cases, water-based inks can be used on food and beverage packaging as it meets the FDA’s regulations for indirect food contact.

However, water-based ink has some disadvantages. It requires a more extended drying time compared to solvent-based ink, which slows down the printing process. It is also less resistant to water and abrasion, which makes it unsuitable for packaging that requires durability in wet or rough conditions.

Solvent-Based Ink

Solvent-based ink, on the other hand, uses a chemical solvent to dissolve the ink pigments. This ink dries quickly and is more durable compared to water-based ink. It is commonly used for printing on packaging that needs a longer shelf life and is intended for harsh conditions. Solvent-based ink does not require special drying processes, making it ideal for high-speed printing applications.
